This is a very large and attractive crumple-podded chilli. This is a member of the Annuum family and it rely packs a punch. The pod has a heat similar to Habanero or Scotch Bonnet but can sometimes be quite a bit hotter. They have a very distinctive fruity and citrus flavor and also taste a little smoky all in all this adds a great depth of flavor as well as a very good heat. Jamaican Hot Red is a compact plant with dense foliage and quite small leaves. Pods are bright red, with an interesting crumpled appearance. The peppers are very thin-walled and juicy, this makes them a good choice for drying.
An wonderful and unusual chilli plant with many things going for it. This is one we have over wintered and will continue to grow because we love it. A 2ft tall plant can produce in excess of fifty 2 x 1.5 inch very pungent wrinkled fruits.
Its a firm favorite in the Caribbean for the famous hot sauces.
